Laura Ziegenhirt

President, Lady Magic Softball

Assistant Coach, Lady Magic 2002

PLAYING CAREER

Laura began her softball career as a 10 year old playing in the Del Campo Girls Softball league, where she was an All-Star pitcher for her entire stint. Laura and her Del Campo teammates won every All-Star tournament they played in.

In High School Laura was an All-League,  All-Metro pitcher leading her Mercy High School team to it's first ever post-season her Senior year. She capped her High School career playing in the Sacramento Optimist All-Star game.

Laura continued her softball career on a full ride scholarship at the University of the Pacific. At UOP, Laura moved to Third Base and was the team's leading hitter (.308) her Sophomore year. As a Senior, Laura and her UOP teammates became the only UOP team to play in the NCAA Womens College World Series, finishing fifth. Laura and her teammates were inducted into the UOP Hall of Fame and Stockton Hall of Fame in 1998.

After her Senior season at UOP, Laura and some of her Lady Tiger teammates played for one summer on the first team to bear the Lady Magic name. That team finished third at the ASA Women's Class A National Championships in Hayward, California. Laura earned ASA All-American honors for her play that season.

COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL COACHING CAREER

Once Laura's playing career ended, she took up coaching.  Over the course of her coaching career, Laura has spent time as an Assistant Head Coach at UOP, a Head Coach at Lincoln of Stockton and an Assistant Head Coach at Sheldon High School in Sacramento.

During her years at Sheldon, where she is still coaching, the Huskies have won numerous league titles, Section Championships and nationally known tournaments including the Livermore Stampede and the Nike Faster To First Tournament. Sheldon has finished in the Top Ten nationally in the USA Today/NFCA rankings, holding the #1 ranking in the country for most of the 2008 Season.

TRAVEL BALL COACHING CAREER

Laura also began coaching at the travel ball level in it's early days. In her years with the NorCal Tremors, Laura's teams finished as high as third at ASA Nationals.  She came home as an assistant coach with Lady Magic, providing valuable experience to a team that finished second that year in the ASA 16u Class A Championships in Sioux Falls, SD.

In 2000, Laura started up a new Lady Magic team. She was the Co-Head Coach (with Joe Jaquez) of that team from 10u through 18 Gold, qualifying for ASA Nationals every season. In all but 2 of those years her teams finished in the top 20, with the highest finish being 7th.

In 2008 Laura helped coach the Lady Magic to it's first National Championship. That year Lady Magic won the ASA Class A Girls 16u division in Owensboro Kentucky, having already won the nationally prestigious Louisville Slugger Independence day tournament.
